About OpenTPW

  • What is OpenTPW?

Theme Park World is a theme park game from 1999. In America it is called Sim Theme Park.

OpenTPW is a new program that plays the old game's files on today's computers. It is a fan project.

  • Can I play it yet?

Not a whole game. Not yet.

Today the lobby works, and the park that comes with Lost Kingdom runs. Guests arrive, queue, ride and buy drinks. You can lay paths, buy rides and hire staff.

You cannot save a park, and you cannot finish a game.

The Ride Status board shows how much is built, in numbers. See Ride Status

  • When will it be finished?

There is no date. It is built one small piece at a time.

Lost Kingdom comes first. The other three lands follow when it is done.

  • Is it made by the people who made the game?

No. OpenTPW is a fan project. It is not made or approved by the game's makers or publishers.

The game and your computer

  • Do I need the original game?

Yes. OpenTPW holds no game files. It reads them from your own copy.

We cannot give you the game, and we cannot tell you where to download it.

  • Does it cost anything?

No. OpenTPW is free, and its code is open for anyone to read.

  • Which version of the game works?

It is tested with the American disc, Sim Theme Park.

Theme Park World, the disc sold elsewhere, should work too. Nobody has tested it yet.

  • Which computers does it run on?

It is built and tested on Linux.

It also builds for Windows and Mac. Windows has not been tried lately, and Mac never has. Reports are very welcome.

  • How do I install it?

There is no ready download yet. You build it from its code in five steps.

    Open Plan Your Visit

  • Will it use my old players and options?

Yes. OpenTPW keeps its players and options in the game's own save folder, so it shares them with the original game.

It cannot save a park yet.

This website

  • What does Easy read do?

It makes the words bigger and uses a clearer font. It stops everything that moves and sets every sign straight.

The switch is at the top of every page. Your choice is remembered on this computer.

While it is on, an Options button shows beside it. There you can pick the letters: clear letters, letters made for dyslexia, or the ones your own device uses. You can also put cream paper behind the words.

Your choices are kept in your own browser. They are sent nowhere, and they say nothing about you.

  • Can I stop things moving?

Yes. The Stop motion switch at the top of every page stops everything that moves. The words stay as they are. Your choice is remembered on this computer.

The Pause button on a picture of the islands holds just that picture still.

  • Why are three lands "not open yet"?

Because their parks do not run in OpenTPW yet. You can see their islands, and read about them here.

  • I found something wrong. Who do I tell?

Please tell us on GitHub. Say what you did and what happened. Report a fault on GitHub

  • Can I help build it?

Yes, please. Backstage says how. Go Backstage
